Material / Aids

A beaker, few pebbles  and water.

Objective / Purpose

Observe practically that matter (insoluble) occupies space and water level rises when pebbles are put into a beaker containing water.

Take a beaker, fill it half with water. Put some pebbles into the beaker. Show the beaker and tell the children to observe what happens. Put few more pebbles and again ask the children if they can find any change. Children will try to say "water level has increased (in their own way). The same can be related with the story of thirsty crow.
