The soil testing has already been done by MK Soil Testing Company, a reputed and government-approved agency for soil testing. The soil bearing capacity (SBC) at 1.5 m depth is 13 t/m2. , at 2.0 m it is 16 t/m2., at 3.0 m it is 23 t/m2.. This seems to be quite typical of Gujarat.

The architectural layout work is currently in progress (the first meeting between architect, school principal, teachers and village elders was held on Febraury 24, 2001, a second meeting was held with the Principal & teachers on 6th March). The design is almost ready.

Art teachers from Eklavya have been regularly visiting the village one day a week since last three weeks to identify art talent. The participants will be from this pool of identified talent. A jury from Eklavya and Aadariyana has been formal and will judge the paintings and give away the prizes. For few days the paintings will be mounted on corrugated boards and displayed at a promintent place in the village.

6. Workshop on Vision Sharing

On March 13, about 35 village leaders attended a one day workshop, in the village itself where Prof.Daniel Steenstra ( a reputed Design management expert from UK who is also associated with NID, Ahmedabad) along with a reputed NGO trainer from Ahmedabad (please see her report attached) facilitated discussions leading eventually to a shared vision on rebuilding the village and the community. Daniel says:

"Today we used a tool that is normally applied in business ,to help the people in Aadariyana to deal with the complexities of the reconstruction after the earthquake.

These people represented different professions, cultural background and age groups in the village and were engaged for 5 hours in a classroom. We played a game and used the model constructed as a framework to generate discussion and build a shared vision for the village.
